At times, the world can feel out of control and chaotic. So, I’ve learned that I must protect my inner peace as much as possible, especially as someone who experiences anxiety. This is not to say I ignore what’s happening in the world and forget about everyone struggling.
But I’ve learned that if I’m overtaken by anxiety, I will be too stressed and overwhelmed to do anything to help anyone else.
Here are four ways I Have Peace Of Mind In A Chaotic World.
Pray For Peace
As a Christian, my first reaction to just about anything is to pray. The Bible tells us in Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.” Jesus is the prince of peace; if we believe this, he can help us protect ours. When I feel overwhelmed by the world, I go to a quiet place and pray, and God always meets me there.
Filter Out Stressful Media
I’m mindful of what I watch and listen to and limit my time watching the news and consuming media. The media evokes emotions and reactions, often including fear and panic.
I’ve learned to turn it off if it begins to affect my mental health or disturbs my peace. I also verify what I read and get the facts about the media I consume.
Reframe Negative Thinking
If I genuinely want to experience peace, I must reframe my negative thoughts and think positively. I do this by focusing on what’s good in my life, practicing gratitude, or journaling. These things always help me.
Engage In Peaceful Activities
Engaging in activities I enjoy always puts me at peace, as does spending time with people who make me feel good and safe. Your environment and activity (or lack thereof) significantly impact how you feel, so engaging in activities that foster peace is important.
Getting outdoors, going for a walk, and having a change of scenery helps me feel more at peace; and it can also help you.
I hope these simple ideas help you in your everyday journey toward peace of mind.
